The Ten Bodies of Kundalini Yoga

November 5, 2019

“If you understand that you are Ten Bodies, and you are aware of those Ten Bodies, and you keep them in balance, the whole Universe will be in balance with you.”

Through Kundalini Yoga, we learn that the body is not one but ten. You have the three mental bodies, the physical body, and the six energy bodies. Understanding the power of each of these bodies and what they mean on a spiritual level will help aid your journey. The aim is to keep these bodies in balance so that you can achieve clarity and peace.

While you may already be familiar with your physical body, taking the time to learn more about the other bodies—those that you cannot see—is a meaningful step. With that in mind, let’s take a moment to look at each of the bodies and their significance.

1st – Soul Body

As the name suggests, the Soul Body is the center of your being. Creativity streams through this body and you can harness that power as it flows. When the Soul Body is imbalanced feel weak and fatigued. By awakening your Kundalini Energy and heightening your consciousness, you can ensure that the body is always in balance.

2nd – Negative Mind

While the Negative Mind may, by its very nature, sound troubling, it plays a necessary role in your life. This body shows you any possible dangers or problems within a situation.By ignoring this body, you can fall foul to unforeseen problems. Instead, you can aim to become in-tune with the Negative Mind and use it to your advantage as you move through your journey.

3rd – Positive Mind

To counter the second body, there is the Positive Mind. Full of optimism as well as opportunistic thoughts, this body shows you the good that the universe has to offer and allows you to open yourself up to new experiences. If the Positive Mind is out of balance, you will feel overwhelmed by negative thoughts. To balance it, you can focus your energy on your Navel Point (Third Chakra).

4th – Neutral Mind

The Neutral Mind offers both tranquility and clarity—it is neither positive, nor negative. When this body is not balanced, you will find it hard to make decisions and struggle with conflicting viewpoints. Regular meditation, which is key as part of your Kundalini Yoga experience, and relaxation will help you balance your Neutral Mind.

5th – Physical Body

The Physical Body is the body that you already know well. It is your form and the home of your soul, which hides deep within it. Maintaining physical strength and agility will aid you as you move through your spiritual practice. Take the time to work on your form and ensure that it is as well as can be. You can do so by maintaining proper routines, in which you focus your attention on both your body and mind at once.

6th – Arcline

Following the hairline, across your brow, and from ear to ear, Arcline is the sixth body in Kundalini Yoga. This body rests where a halo might; a position that is telling of its nature. Linked with protection, perception, and intuition, the Arcline plays an important and spiritual role. Women also have a second Arcline, which draws a line from nipple-to-nipple on their chests. Balancing this body means awakening the pituitary gland through meditating, and engaging in pranayama.

7th – Aura

Those who are new to the world of Kundalini Yoga may have heard of this body. The Aura is an energy that manifests as an electromagnetic field around the Physical Body. It is a shield that allows only positivity to enter a person’s space while—at the exact same time—getting rid of any negativity that may try to come in. A combination of Kundalini Yoga activities, including martial arts and meditation, helps to keep the body balanced.

8th – Pranic Body

If you have learned about pranayama, you may already be familiar with the Pranic Body. This is the eighth body in the ten bodies of Kundalini Yoga. The Prana is the special life energy, which is carried through our breathing. When it is in balance, you will feel calm and motivated. However, when it is imbalanced, you will feel anxious and tired. Practicing pranayama exercises, yoga, and martial arts will help you keep this body on track.

9th – Subtle Body

The Subtle Body encapsulates your calmness, clarity, and intuition. It is your connection to the non-physical imprint of all experiences; a link that you can nurture through your journey. When you balance this body, you will be able to tap into your innate intuition and see things that you could not before now. On the other hand, when it’s out of balance, you will find it hard to relax and may say and do unkind things. To balance this body, you should take the time to practice kriyas and meditation as part of Kundalini Yoga.

10th – Radiant Body

Finally, the Radiant Body is the courageous and royal part of your spirit. It is a high level of spirituality and one for which we may aim during our personal journey. Having control over this body allows us to be brave and push forward in any area we desire to improve. It is about nobility and, of course, radiance. Should the body be out of balance, you may struggle with conflict and shy away from difficult situations. Staying true to the spiritual values in which you believe helps you to balance the tenth body.
